Arequipa

It is known as the City Blanca due to the white porous volcanic stone (the ashlar) that was used to build most of the their buildings. The city is surrounded by the mountains and volcanos finished off with snow as the Misti (5820 m.), Chachani
(6096 m.) and Pichu Pichu. The City of Arequipa is to 2400 meters on the level of the sea and he/she has a very pleasant climate, its days are mainly hot and sunny, and their nights are fresh.

Their main attractions include:

Santa Catalina's Convent (Sata Catalina of Siena), it is one of the most interesting samples in colonial religious architecture in the Peru. The whole complex is a real town inside the City of Arequipa. Their construction began in 1579 and he/she took a long time many decades to finish it. It housed to approximately 450 nuns that were secluidas for all their life. The convent opened up as a museum in 1970. The trip of the City of Arequipa always includes a visit to this convent, the Cathedral and a walk for the picturesque landscape near the central area of the city.

Other attractions near the city include Yanahuara, a famous district that has a beautiful colonial church and a mirador with arches sculpted in volcanic stone. Cayma is a couple of miles outside of the city and he/she also has another beautiful church and a view an interesting view of the city.

The Canyon of Colca, it is considered as the deepest canyon in the world (even deeper than the canyon of Colorado), it is located approximately to 170 Km. outside of the city. In the route you will be able to appreciate small and interesting towns with friendly people that dress very colorfully; there are also in the areas mountainous many South American camélidos including flames, German nickels and vicuñas. Around there you will probably observe some condors that fly around the mountains. Also, you will be able to see sculptures in stone, paintings rupestres and thermal bathrooms.
